Born in Kirkby-in-Ashfield on 25 July 1859, Tom Lowe was a right-hand batsman and right-arm medium pace bowler. He appeared for the XXII Colts v Notts in April 1885 and for Notts Colts v Yorkshire Colts in 1894. At the age of 35, his only First-Class match was in 1894 for Notts v Middlesex at Trent Bridge in August 1894 when he scored 0 not out and bowled 0-41 over two innings. He was engaged at Oxford, Stourbridge (1880), Uppingham (1881), Liverpool (1882 to 1884), Northamptonshire CCC (1886 and 1887), Church in the Lancashire League (1892) and, for three years, at Poddach, Glasgow. He was still playing for Kirkby in local matches in 1911. In 1886 there was a benefit match arranged for him between Northamptonshire Gentlemen and Players at Northampton.
He died aged 75 years on 29 August 1934 in Kirkby-in-Ashfield.
He had two younger brothers who also played first-class cricket: Sam Lowe (1867-1947), who also made one First-Class appearance for Notts in 1894 and subsequently played for Glamorgan in the Minor Counties Championship, and Richard Lowe (1869-1946) who made 15 First-Class appearances between 1891-94 for Sussex and Lord Sheffield’s XI and also appeared for Glamorgan in their Minor County days.
