Born on 16 May 1983 in Sheffield, the 6 ft 6 in Thomas Edward Savill attended Fernwood School in Wollaton, Bilborough College and studied for a BA degree in Biological Sciences and Education followed by a PGCE at Homerton College at Cambridge University.
A right-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium (occasionally seriously quick) bowler, he started at Wollaton CC and made his first team debut in 1999. He represented Notts at Under-17 level and made his debut for Notts Seconds in September 2000. From 2000 to 2002 he appeared in 15 Second Eleven Championship fixtures for Notts scoring 279 runs @13.28 and taking 31 wickets @32.29, with best bowling figures of 7-75 v Derbyshire at Denby in 2002. In addition he played one Second Eleven Trophy game.
He played two List-A games in the Cheltenham and Gloucester Trophy for the Notts Cricket Board in 2001 versus Bedfordshire at Wardown Park, Luton and v Oxfordshire at the Christ Church Ground, Oxford. He scored 15 not out and 35 not out and bowled 1-45 and 0-45. He also represented the Notts Cricket Board in two Minor Counties Knock Out Trophy games in 2002.
He played just one first-team match for Notts, a First-Class friendly v West Indies A in July 2002. He was dismissed for a two-ball duck and bowled 5-1-42-2, dismissing both openers, before rain washed out the entire last day. Earlier that summer he had made his First-Class debut for Cambridge UCCE v Middlesex at Fenner’s. He gained his Blue for four successive seasons from 2003 to 2006, skippering the team in the University Match in his final summer - which turned out to be his last First-Class game. In the 2005 University Match, he made his top First-Class score of 59. In 17 First-Class games he scored 363 runs @18.14 and took 36 wickets @50.88 with best figures of 4-62 for Cambridge UCCE v Northamptonshire in 2006.
He had a summer contract with Middlesex CCC for the summers of 2003 and 2004, but never played for the first team.
He has played club cricket at various times for Wollaton, Welbeck Colliery, Teddington and Dulwich and spent the winter of 2008/9 playing for Melbourne University in the Victorian Premier League. He has also made appearances for Quidnuncs and the MCC.
He is currently Deputy Head of the Junior School of Trinity Grammar School in Kew, Melbourne, Australia.
