A right hand bat and seam bowler, Trevor Tunnicliffe played for Nottinghamshire between 1973 and 1980.
Howard Trevor Tunnicliffe was born in Derby on 4 March 1950 and educated at Malvern College. He first appeared in Notts colours for the Second eleven in 1970 but played only intermittently until 1973, when he appeared regularly for the Seconds and also made his first appearances for the full County side. He made his debut in List-A cricket in a Benson & Hedges Quarter Final at Worcester in mid-June and followed this with a First-Class start against the touring West Indians at Trent Bridge at the end of the month.
Looking to a future after cricket, Tunnicliffe trained as a teacher during his time at Trent Bridge, which often restricted his availability for Championship matches; but he played regularly in List-A cricket, ultimately starting in 104 matches in which he amassed 1,068 runs and took 45 wickets. He scored three 50s with a top score of 54 against Derbyshire in the B&H Cup in 1980, while his best analysis was 3-17 against Sussex in the John Player League in 1975.
Tunnicliffe was more prolific with the bat in First-Class cricket. He scored 2,116 runs in 65 starts for Nottinghamshire, with a top score of 100 not out against Middlesex in 1980. He also claimed 42 wickets with his medium pace.
Trevor Tunnicliffe played more regularly for Nottinghamshire between 1978 and 1980 but was not retained at the end of the 1980 season. He moved into coaching, ultimately holding the position of Director of Cricket at Loughborough Grammar School from 1995 until his retirement in 2013.
