William Naylor Kirk was born on 18 January 1866 in Radford. He played in one First-Class game for Notts v MCC at Lord’s on 19, 20 and 21 July 1888 in which he scored 4 and did not bowl. He had previously played a good innings for Notts Colts v Yorkshire Colts in June 1888, in which fixture he again appeared in 1889. On 18 June 1887, he hit 171 not out for Hyson Green v Bulwell. He appeared in five games for Herefordshire in 1890. In the first of those, v W G Grace’s XI he made just 4 runs in the only innings of the 18 of Hereford and took three wickets and a catch; one of his two victims was Sandford Robinson, who had been a team-mate in the Nottinghamshire side, clean bowled for a duck.
William Kirk, who was a lacemaker by trade, died on 10 January 1904 at Hyson Green aged 37 years.
