TRENT BRIDGE TO HOST DEMENTIA-FRIENDLY DAY OF SPECSAVERS COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP CRICKET

Trust News

The Trent Bridge Community Trust will host a dementia-friendly event on day two of the Specsavers County Championship match between Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire.

The ‘Forget Me Notts’ fixture at Trent Bridge will take place on Tuesday 17 September with the match set to take place from 10.30am to 5.30pm.

Individuals with a dementia diagnosis and their carers can attend free of charge, while designated rooms and seating areas will be available, hosted by trained Dementia Friends.

Free ‘Forget Me Notts’ tickets are available online here or by calling the ticket office on 0115 899 0300.

The day is the latest in a succession of Trent Bridge Community Trust initiatives.

Monthly activity sessions, which began during the summer of 2017, were recently expanded to include cricket on the outfield at Trent Bridge, as well as multi-sport sessions in partnership with the Nottingham Forest Community Trust, the National Ice Centre, Nottingham Rugby and Edwalton Golf Club.

“When people are living with dementia, providing them with opportunities to remain active and stimulated is an important part of confronting the condition,” said Mark Clifford, the Trent Bridge Community Trust’s Community Projects Manager.

“It is often the oldest memories that stay with them the longest – and that quintessential Englishness of a day’s cricket has every chance of invoking some nostalgia within those that are able to join us.

“We wanted to make sure people living with dementia do not feel in any way excluded from our venue.

“We want them to know they’re very welcome, and that’s why we are providing a safe environment tailored to their needs.

“Over 100 of Nottinghamshire staff have been trained in dementia awareness – and they will be out in force on the day to offer assistance to anyone that needs it.”

Free ‘Forget Me Notts’ tickets are available online here, or by calling the ticket office on 0115 899 0300.
