HISTORY

Positive Futures commenced delivery in April 2009, starting with Mark Clifford as the project co-ordinator with the aim to reduce anti-social behaviour and juvenile crime in Cotgrave. Over the first three years, Mark and a part-time youth worker were part of a crime reduction initiative that saw a reduction of 76% in the area.

In 2012, due to the success of the project, Rushcliffe Borough Council made a decision to extend the beyond Cotgrave and into Keyworth, Radcliffe-on-Trent and Bingham, which saw the Trust team develop further, with three new roles created.

The expansion also led to a shift in focus, now working on prevention and supporting schools with the challenges they were facing with their students for a wide range of reasons, from behavioural to confidence issues.

In 2017, project funding was once again extended, this time to include East Leake as the Trust team grew to seven full time members and one part time.

In Rushcliffe, the project was now supporting hundreds of young people, with the cohort tasked with becoming key members in their communities. They had already begun to show that they could be having worked on over fifteen Community Pride Projects across the mentioned localities.

The Trust team are now a permanent fixture in four of the seven schools and in five of the largest communities in Rushcliffe, with funding having been extended until December 2024 by Rushcliffe Borough Council.

The project also supports young people to access work placement opportunities and provides visits to large establishments for an insight to the depths of the opportunities, with the hope of widening the horizons of young people entering the final stages of education.

In addition, YouNG employs 10 Ambassadors who are tasked with management tasks, managing social media, developing their own businesses and working with their schools to ensure that all young people in the seven Rushcliffe schools are able to access the full scope of support on offer from the Trent Bridge Community Trust.
