Date of birth: 17 January 1997, Bolton
Nottinghamshire First Class Debut: 1 August 2020 vs Derbyshire (Trent Bridge)
Haseeb Hameed was appointed to the role of Club Captain after Steven Mullaney stood down at the end of the 2023 season.
The extra responsibility did little to impair his run-making tendencies in his first season at the helm, with the Bolton-born batter finishing with over 1,000 County Championship runs - more than any English opener - as he guided his side to safety in Division One in 2024.
He arrived at the club in the winter of 2019, after bursting onto the scene with his home county, and England, as a teenager.
In 2016, he became the fifth-youngest player to reach 1,000 runs in a season, and secured his spot on the Test tour of India as a result. He mustered 82 in his second innings for the Three Lions, and 59 with a fractured finger in the third Test.
After the move to Trent Bridge, runs flowed in the curtailed Bob Willis Trophy season of 2020 and again in 2021 when talks of an England recall intensified. Centuries in both innings against Worcestershire and against the Indian tourists (for the First Class Counties XI) set up an opportunity in the Ashes down under.
Despite a series defeat, Hameed amassed 1,235 runs at an average of 58.80 apiece on his return home in 2022. There were four centuries amongst his haul, including a career-best 196 away against Derbyshire, as he and Ben Duckett put on a county record 402 for the second wicket.
Post-season, Hameed was selected for England Lions, and amassed 145 against the full England team in a three-day match in Abu Dhabi, before being confirmed as the Lions red-ball captain for their subsequent tour of Sri Lanka.
