Read?s defiant 68 not out helped us to our first victory of the season in Division One and he is now looking for us to put a run of results together to move up the table.

He said: "To me, the key to one-day cricket is to build momentum and now we have the first win on the board we can hopefully start a run going.

"There?s no doubt in my mind that we have the squad to perform well on in limited-overs cricket. Now we?ve broken whatever psychological barrier might have built up, we have to work on getting clear on the bottom three and we still have time to do it."

Lancashire had us in trouble at 77-5 in perfect conditions for swing bowling but Read and David Hussey built a 72-run partnership for the sixth wicket, giving Read and Ealham the chance to counter-attack in the last ten overs.

Our seam attack put the pressure on from the start and with Lancashire losing regular wickets we secured a comfortable victory by 61 runs.

Read added: "We were in a spot of bother but I aimed to stay in as long as possible to keep wickets in hand before attacking in the final five overs.

"It was tough going at the start but Russell Warren and Stephen Fleming got us going before David Hussey and Mark Ealham helped me out.

"It?s the way we look to bat and it paid off this time round. It was important to get a win not only for this competition but also to settle us after the loss to Hampshire in the Championship.

"We can now look forward to the Championship match with Sussex with confidence and get our title challenge back on course."
