totesport League Division One
May 2
Glamorgan Dragons 204-4
Notts Outlaws 217-8 (Hussey 68, Read 47, Patel 40*)
Glamorgan Dragons won by four runs
Read?s 99-run partnership with David Hussey had given us a faint chance of recovering from 52-4 but despite two sixes in the final over from Samit Patel we finished up four runs short of the revised target.
But Read is confident we can turn things around and said: ?Partnerships are often the key to winning one-day matches and David and myself nearly proved the point today.
?We were in trouble with the loss of the top order but if I?m honest the two of us are bitterly disappointed not to have won the game.
?If we had both managed to stay in for another five overs we might have tipped the balance. As it was, the boys never gave up and Samit, Gareth Clough and Ryan Sidebottom showed the determination that exists in the dressing room.
?If you ignore our first match against Middlesex Crusaders, when we were all played poorly, we have been in with a shout of winning both games this weekend.
?Batting is our strength and if we can build more partnerships we will come good very soon.?
Needing 24 off the final over bowled by Darren Thomas and 22 off the last four balls, 20-year-old Patel smashed a four and two maximums but could only manage one off the final delivery.
It left us four runs short of the revised target of 222 to win after a heavy rain shower reduced the match to 28 overs a side.
Hussey and Read just kept us in the hunt despite losing our first four wickets cheaply but when Read, Mark Ealham and Hussey fell in successive overs the situation proved impossible even for Patel.
