Scotland’s entry into ICC World Twenty20 2009 has been confirmed following the formal withdrawal of Zimbabwe.

The ICC ratified a decision that had been agreed at the ICC’s annual conference in July and it is now known that the Netherlands and Ireland will also participate in the competition which is to be hosted jointly by Trent Bridge, Lord’s and The Oval.

The withdrawal of Zimbabwe means that Ireland move to Group A alongside India and Bangladesh while the Netherlands face England and India in Group B.

Scotland join New Zealand and South Africa in Group D.

"We are grateful to Zimbabwe Cricket for confirming the decision taken by its officials during annual conference week,” said ICC President David Morgan.

"This allows the ICC the opportunity to plan with certainty the ICC World Twenty20 2009 - as well as giving Scotland, the side set to step up in Zimbabwe's place, plenty of preparation time ahead of the tournament."

Ireland will play their first group fixture against Bangladesh at Trent Bridge on Monday 8 June.
