Captain Chris Read has reiterated his desire to lead Notts Outlaws to a Lord’s final as they prepare for the Friends Provident Trophy quarter-final with Gloucestershire Gladiators.

The 30-year-old has never played in a one-day final and said: “We are at the quarter-final stage and only two games away from Lord’s.

“It’s something I’ve been harping on about since I became captain - going to Lord’s to lift a trophy and this is our next chance to do that.

“We’ll have to do it the hard way with the trip to Bristol and then another away game for the semi-final, but we will take whatever comes our way.”

A fixture clash with England’s One-Day International against the West Indies led to the delay in the quarter-final being played, and both sides were unable to practice at Bristol following an Elton John concert at the County Ground.

But Director of Cricket Mick Newell said: “We had a hard four days against Hampshire so there would not have been a very intense practice session even if we had had the choice.

“We’ll have a team meeting before the game to assess things. It’s a one-off match and we will try and pick the best team to help us win and get us into the semi-finals.

“Gloucestershire may have had a few days more to prepare but they also haven’t played a 50-over game for a while.”
