Andre Adams derailed Kent’s first innings with a four wicket haul as Nottinghamshire enforced the follow on to compound a dominant position at the end of day two.
Adams missed all but the final four days of Nottinghamshire’s pre-season preparations as he featured in the Grade Cricket Final in Sydney but showed no signs of tiredness in ripping through the visiting middle order.
After Paul Franks guided Notts to maximum batting points with a tidy 73, Kent were left to chase 456 but only mustered 200 in their first innings and were 51-2 at the close.
Kent captain Rob Key was a deflated figure having fallen for 4 and 15 and Adams believes that the double dismissal of the influential batsman could prove crucial.
“Rob is a quality player and I can’t understand why he hasn’t played more for England to be honest,” said Adams, who was denied a first five wicket haul for Notts by a dropped catch in the slips.
“It was good to get rid of their top guys and enforcing the follow-on was massively important to us because we want to bat last on this wicket.
“We’re on top at the moment but anything can happen and we have to get a couple of early wickets tomorrow to hammer home the advantage.”
Ryan Sidebottom finished with 3-31 from 16 ultra-economical overs in Kent’s first innings. Two first innings wickets for Franks and one either side of the follow-on from Luke Fletcher ensured the Notts seamers came out on top.
