England paceman Stuart Broad has been named in a provisional 12-man Nottinghamshire squad to face Somerset in Wednesday's LV= County Championship match at Trent Bridge.
Graeme Swann and Ryan Sidebottom, Nottinghamshire's other centrally contracted England players, are not available for the game.
Broad's inclusion has allowed Notts the opportunity to rest Darren Pattinson, who is short of match fitness following an ankle injury, but would have been considered if Broad was unable to play.
"Stuart feels that he needs a game and wants to play against Somerset and we’ve been told that he will be available to us barring any last minute knocks,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“Ideally he’ll come in for Ryan and we’ll keep faith with the rest of the players.”
Broad will join Andre Adams, Paul Franks and Luke Fletcher in the Notts pace attack with Andy Carter on standby.
“The outcome of the Kent match couldn’t have been any better for us and the quality of our seam bowling was very high," said Newell.
“Somerset have a more experienced bowling unit than Kent but we have to approach the game with confidence and having one of our England players involved can only help us.”
