Decent batting contributions from Matthew Wood, Steven Mullaney and Scott Elstone helped Nottinghamshire make a winning start against Glamorgan in the first match of their Second Eleven Trophy campaign.
Elstone reached his 50 in 60 balls and his undefeated 63 included a six and nine fours. He was ably supported by Graeme White with 24 carrying the home side to victory with 4.3 overs remaining.
Chasing 222 for victory, Notts fell to 135-5 when skipper Mullaney was out to a brilliant catch at deep mid on by the tallest Glamorgan fielder, Shea ,off a skier. The match was in the balance until Elstone and White solidified the position and then attacked adding 45 from the last six overs in a stand of 70 in fifteen overs.
“Charlie Shreck bowled very well with the new ball and he generated pace and swing which was good to see,” said Wood who laid firm foundations with 43 runs.
“Graeme White bowled with a lot of control and it was a decent performance in the field.
“The side hasn’t yet been selected for the first team 40-over game at the weekend but a lot of the guys playing today want to push their case for inclusion with a good performance.”
Glamorgan owed their total of 221 to Will Bragg who carried his bat for a solid 108 from 146 balls with four sixes and six fours. However, the Notts attack restricted him to 38 singles in 59 balls after he had reached his 50. Graeme White bowled his ten overs unchanged taking 3-40 ably backed by Andrew Carter (2-31). Charlie Shreck (2-37), Steven Mullaney (1-45) and Jake Ball (1-47) were the other wicket takers. In addition there was a superb direct hit from Graeme White to run out Owen
