England captain Andrew Strauss was quick to praise swing-bowling teammate James Anderson after the Lancastrian claimed 11 match wickets to help claim a comfortable victory at Trent Bridge.
The 354-run victory margin signalled as much about Pakistan’s weak batting as England’s strength with the ball and the tourists seem destined to struggle to get a foothold in the four-Test series which continues at Edgbaston on Friday.
"You can say that Pakistan batted poorly, but I prefer to focus on the bowling,” said Strauss.
“There's no better bowler in the world when it's swinging than Jimmy, and he was backed up very well by Broad and Finn.
"Our biggest aim is consistency and you don't do that in one game.
"We have won five Test matches in a row, but certainly that Bangladesh series you would expect us to win.”
Pakistan scored just 80 second innings runs - there lowest ever total against England - and were all out before lunch.
Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme Swann caught Mohammad Asif in the slips to give Anderson his eleventh wicket of the match and complete England’s victory.
