Nottinghamshire batsman Ali Brown has no plans to change his explosive approach to limited overs cricket when the Friends Provident t20 begins in June.
The renowned six-hitter turned 40 today but has recovered from off-season surgery to remove a bone spur and is ready to report for pre-season training later this month.
Brown joined Notts after 21 years with Surrey and proved to be a sound acquisition with solid performances in all formats.
“Last season revitalised me and if I’m banging hundreds and enjoying my cricket then I’d hope to sit down with Mick and talk about extending my stay,” said Brown who scored 849 LV= County Championship runs and three Twenty20 Cup fifties in his debut season at Trent Bridge.
“I don’t feel like I’m living in the body of a forty year old and I was actually a little bit disappointed to average 40 in the Championship last season because I felt that my form and the wickets made a 50 run average achievable.
“I struck the ball with confidence in the second half of our Twenty20 campaign, had less fear of failure and developed a good understanding with Matt Wood in the opening pair.”
Brown’s form combined with the impact of overseas duo David Hussey and Dirk Nannes will go a long way to determining the success of the Outlaws campaign in the revamped Friends Provident t20.
A veteran of 16 one day internationals, he saw the strengths of Nannes during his stint with Middlesex and believes his capture represents shrewd business by the Notts management.
“Left-armers can be harder to hit because they tend to get across right-handed batsman and Dirk has good pace which will make him a real asset to the side,” said Brown.
“David Hussey was explosive last season and I’m sure he’ll pick up where he left off. On top of that we’ve signed some good young players who can help the older men in the field.”
