Nottinghamshire bowler Stuart Broad has compared his elation at winning the ICC World Twenty20 yesterday to the moment of victory in the Ashes last August.
England comprehensively defeated Australia to win their first ICC final in the West Indies with five Nottinghamshire players involved in the match.
“Considering the pressure that we were under, the manner in which we won the game was very special,” said Broad.
“The Ashes victory was a wonderful moment but for a lot us this final was the biggest game of our lives and we really deserved the victory.
“We talked about the strengths of our team rather than analysing those of the opposition and the result has delighted everyone connected with the team because we shared a magical day.”
Along with Notts teammates Ryan Sidebottom and Graeme Swann, Broad will return to England on Tuesday whilst Australian paceman Dirk Nannes will land on Wednesday as he prepares to represent the Outlaws in the Friends Provident t20.
The England trio will all target places in the Test and One Day sides to face Bangladesh and Pakistan but will enjoy a brief respite to saviour their ICC World Twenty20 triumph.
“The feeling of winning the tournament has made up for the ins and outs I’ve been through over the past 18 months,” said Sidebottom.
“I felt good throughout the tournament and credit is due to every player in the dressing room because they have all played their part in this.
“This is a starting point for us in many ways because we have showed the cricket world that we can perform at the highest level and long may that continue.”
Notts will pin a lot of their Twenty20 hopes on two of the defeated Australians. Nannes finished as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 14 whilst David Hussey scored a half-century.
“Ryan, Stuart and Graeme bowled extremely well throughout the tournament and England were the most consistent side on show,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“It was a proud moment for the club to see five of our players lining up in an ICC final and I think that a lot of teams will be quite envious that we’ve secured the services of Dirk and David.
“It’s plain to see that they will both add a lot of value to the team and I hope that they can prove to be difference-makers in our Friends Provident t20 fixtures.”
Trent Bridge will host an England-Pakistan Test from Thursday 29th July and an England –Bangladesh ODI on Thursday 8th July and tickets are on sale now.
Notts Outlaws begin their home Friends Provident t20 fixtures with a game against Derbyshire Falcons on Friday 11th June.
