Notts Premier League
Notts Academy (1pt) 139 lost to Clifton Village (20pts) 140-4 by 6 wkts
The Academy batting failed for the first time this season in this clash between the second and third placed teams in the Premier league.
Apart from Sam Wood (36) and Sam Kelsall (31) the batting lacked conviction and was not helped by two needless run outs attempting second runs when the fielder had the ball in his hands.
The Academy were 85-3 at one stage but slumped to 102-7 as Adam Shepherd took 3-13 and then Daniel Footitt took the last three wickets to finish with 3-14.
Not that Clifton found batting easy on a slowish pitch - they lost early wickets with Dan Cumming dismissing Harris and Taylor in consecutive overs. When Jake Ball had Birch caught at slip by Kelsall the visitors were 26-3 and then 56-4 when George Bacon had McNeill leg before with his third delivery.
However, Martin Weightman was then joined by Tom Lungley and the pair guided Clifton home. Weightman was the only batsmen to come to terms with the conditions and batted well for his undefeated 79 from 107 balls with a six and 12 fours as Clifton reached their target from 36 overs.
