Adam Voges top-scored with 60 as Notts Outlaws completed a comfortable victory over Unicorns to reinvigorate their Clydesdale Bank 40 campaign.
An opening stand of 72 between Mark Wagh and Akhil Patel had given Notts solid foundations as they responded to the home side’s tally of 200-4.
Samit Patel registered his fifty before Ali Brown (16) steered Notts home alongside Voges.
“Darren bowled well and he will have a big role to play in our Twenty20 team." Mick Newell
“We were in control throughout the game and there was some improvement in comparison with our games against Somerset and Warwickshire,” said Nottinghamshire Director of Cricket Mick Newell.
“I would have liked to have seen Akhil Patel or Mark Wagh go on to bigger scores but there was never any panic and we got over the line quite comfortably.”
Darren Pattinson returned 2-35 on his return to first team action after hamstring trouble and Newell hopes that he can maintain his effectiveness in the second elevn to force a recall to Nottinghamshire’s LV= County Championship team.
“Darren bowled well and he will have a big role to play in our Twenty20 team but he needs to get a three-day match under his belt before we can consider calling him up for Championship matches,” said Newell.
“We used Sam Wood as a second spinner to day in the absence of Graeme White and we like what he offers in addition to his batting.”
Michael Thornely impressed for the Unicorns in stands with James Campbell and Josh Knappett before he was bowled by Pattinson five runs short of his century.
The result represents a first win for Notts in the competition this season whilst the Unicorns reflect on a fifth successive defeat.
