Nottinghamshire Women’s all-rounder Georgie Boyce has seen her fine form across 2016 rewarded with a place in England’s Academy for their winter training.

The 18-year-old struck 535 runs, including four fifties, and added eight wickets across the 2016 summer as Nottinghamshire’s Women were promoted back to Division One of the Championship at the first time of asking.

And Boyce is hoping to continue her progress in the England pathway having recently been involved in the Development Programme.

"To continue my progression through the ranks with England is really pleasing and obviously I want to keep moving forward," she said.

"I am coming up from the Development Programme. It shows that the work I have been doing on my all round game has been paying off.

"2016 has been another productive summer for me, and it was great to clinch promotion back to the top tier of the Championship, as well as joining up with the Loughborough Lightning squad for the Kia Super League.

"I learnt a lot from the likes of Ellyse Perry, Dane Van Nierkerk and Sophie Devine and hopefully I can take some of those lessons into my own game.

"Hopefully this can set me up to hit the ground running in 2017 as we look to build on that promotion and bounce back from disappointment in the T20 competition."

“The pinnacle for any talented, aspiring young cricketer is to play and win matches for England, and through the England Women’s Pathway we believe that we are developing a structure to support their journey,” said ECB’s Director of England Women’s Cricket, Clare Connor.

“The introduction of the six new Regional Development Centres aligned to the Kia Super League structure helps us to significantly broaden the talent pool that we are working with at the base of the pathway, and without any age constraints, we can take a broader and extended view of a young player’s potential.

“It’s important to note that the four stages of the pathway are not seen as detached programmes.  We understand that players develop at different rates, and there is an element of flexibility running through this.

"So whilst a player might be initially included in one squad, this is not set in stone – we want players to be constantly challenging and vying to make the next step towards wearing an England shirt.”
