Nottinghamshire’s Second XI sealed an impressive 15-run win after a nail-biting final day against Lancashire in the Second Eleven Championship at Liverpool.
Beginning the day on 11-0, 105 runs ahead, an opening stand of 120 and half centuries from Lyndon James (69) and Chris Gibson (53) saw Notts declare on 219-8.
Setting the home side a target of 313 for victory and they got agonisingly close, eventually being bowled out for 298 despite a century from opener Rob Jones.
Liam Patterson-White was among the wickets yet again taking a flurry of late dismissals to hand Notts the win when the home side looked set for victory on 251-5.
The spinner picked up four of the last wickets to fall, dismissing Sam Perry (2) and Joe Mennie (6) cheaply before removing George Lavelle, who followed on from his first innings fifty with a knock of 67.
That left the home side on 295-8, needing 18 to win with two wickets in hand, but Lyndon James capped off an impressive performance in the match to get rid of Jack Morley for a duck, before Patterson-White wrapped up the victory by bowling Chris Sanders for 9, handing Notts an improbable win.
The win sees Notts Seconds climb to sixth in the Second Eleven Championship North Division table ahead of their three-day clash with Northants that begins on Monday (August 6).
