An unbeaten century from Alex Thomson ensured Warwickshire ended day one of the Second Eleven Championship game on top, as Nottinghamshire’s bowlers endured a tough day in the field.
Captain Mark Footitt won the toss and chose to bowl first, a decision that was immediately rewarded as the skipper, Jack Blatherwick and Kamau Leverock all made early inroads, the hosts reduced to 89-5.
However, Thomson entered the fold and began the recovery, first with Warwickshire wicketkeeper Alex Mellor, who eventually fell for 31 to the spin of Liam Patterson-White.
Dan Douthwaite then joined Thomson to take the score from 131-6 to 307-7, as he made a brisk 84 before becoming Footitt’s (3-65) third victim.
Thomson remained however, reaching his century and finding good support in George Panayi (22) and Sukhjit Singh (14).
Warwickshire were eventually all out for 393, Thomson ending unbeaten on 134, Leverock the pick of the Nottinghamshire bowlers with figures of 4-78.
Tom Milnes then strengthened the dominance of the hosts, removing Chris Gibson in the first over, before Lyndon James (5*) and Savin Perera (9*) took Nottinghamshire to the close on 20-1, trailing by 373 runs.
