Nottinghamshire’s Second XI suffered a defeat and salvaged a thrilling tie in their two Second Eleven Twenty20 trophy matches against a Warwickshire side that included some well-known names at Barnt Green CC.

In the first game Warwickshire amassed a total of 215-5 thanks to a third wicket stand of 129 from Matthew Lamb and Adam Hose, with the latter top scoring in the innings with 79.

Lamb finished unbeaten on 70 as Mark Footitt took three wickets for just 29 runs.

Seamer Jack Blatherwick also took the important wicket of destructive opener Ed Pollock for just two whilst Liam Patterson-White claimed a wicket.

In reply, Notts could only muster 179 as they were bowled out in 18.5 overs.

Wicket-keeper Tom Keast struck 36 and Connor Marshall continued his good form with 29 but Notts fell 36 runs short of their target.

The second game was a much tighter affair with Notts winning the toss and choosing to bat first.

An opening stand of 51 from Soloman Budinger (20) and Lyndon James, who top scored with 38, set the foundations for the away side.

They finished their 20 overs on 164 all out with Jack Blatherwick being run out from the final ball of the innings for 28.

Aaron Thomason and spinner Sukhjit Singh took three wickets each for Warwickshire throughout the course of the innings.

Matthew Lamb picked up from where he left off during the Warwickshire innings as he again finished unbeaten, this time on 73.

But he couldn’t hand the home side their second win of the day as Daniel Douthwaite was dismissed from the very last ball of the innings, driving a Mark Footitt delivery straight to Liam Patterson-White at mid-wicket, ending the game in a tie.

Footitt again claimed three wickets, with Connor Marshall taking two run outs, including Adam Hose for just one, and Lyndon James picking up the other Warwickshire wicket to fall.

Notts’ Seconds face Warwickshire again in Second XI County Championship action starting today (July 24).
