Nottinghamshire fell to a pair of defeats on their final weekend of home fixtures in the Vitality Women’s County T20, coming up short in run chases against Sussex and Wales at Collingham.

Notts lost the toss in both contests, and endured a difficult start to their first clash of the day as Sussex posted an opening stand of 49 from their first eight overs.

Kirstie Gordon would break the partnership by removing the dangerous Georgia Adams for 36, and her fellow opener Georgia Elwiss departed for the same score soon after.

Elwiss was dismissed by Sonia Odedra, who finished with two wickets, while there were also two scalps for Gordon and a wicket for Sophie Munro.

Chasing 119 to win, Notts lost both Teresa and Yvonne Graves cheaply, before Polly Inglis also departed without seriously troubling the scorers.

Sonia Odedra (14) would soon follow, with skipper Lucy Higham (23) the only home batter to offer any serious resistance as Notts finished on 76-8, losing by 42 runs.

The day’s second fixture was a much tighter affair, with Notts restricting Wales to 88-8 from 18 overs before the weather closed in.

Kirstie Gordon finished with 3-9, including a run of ten balls where the spinner took all three of her wickets without conceding a run, while Amy Gauvrit made a decisive late contribution to chalk up figures of 3-12.

Notts were chasing a DLS target of 90 from 18 overs on the resumption of play, but only Teresa Graves (19) and Kirstie Gordon (11) were able to reach double figures.

Heading into their final over, the hosts required 15 to win, but Sophie Munro and Amy Gauvrit were only able to rotate the strike before Munro found the boundary with the penultimate delivery of the game.

The pair scampered a single from the final ball, leaving Wales celebrating a five run victory.

Notts sit in seventh place in the T20 table with just a double-header against Surrey and Middlesex to come next weekend.
