Two wickets fell in a dramatic final over as Nottinghamshire edged their Royal London Women’s One Day Cup clash with Warwickshire by four runs.
Warwickshire required ten from the final over to successfully chase down 207, but seamer Sophie Munro held her nerve, with a run-out and the dismissal of Joanne Gardner (59) restricting the visitors to just five from the last six balls.
Munro finished with figures of 3-52, also removing Laura Crofts (0) and Amy Jones within three balls of each other, Jones having been dropped three times before departing for 89.
Jones and Gardner made the only significant contributions for the Bears, who came up against an economical Notts attack.
Kirstie Gordon conceded just 16 runs from her ten overs, removing skipper Marie Kelly (5) and Kathryn Bryce (6), while there were also wickets for Sonia Odedra (2-41) and Jenny Gunn (1-34).
Gunn, playing her first home game since returning to Nottinghamshire for the 2019 season, anchored much of the home side’s innings, making 46 before being bowled by Kathryn Brice.
But it was the Warwickshire medium-pacer’s younger sister who stole the show with the bat, Sarah Bryce making 51 at the top of the order and compiling a half-century partnership with Gunn.
Nottinghamshire’s total was aided by the 40 extras which were conceded by the visiting attack, and proved to be just enough to secure a second win of the campaign for the green and golds.
