Trent Bridge Community Trust celebrated the hosting of the #Donate4Dementia zipwire event by reaching the £31,000 landmark in their fundraising efforts.
Over 90 participants took part in the event at Trent Bridge, which saw participants fly over the iconic cricket ground from a crane erected behind the William Clarke Stand, to a landing pad in front of the Larwood and Voce Stand.
In total, £31,504 has been raised for Forget Me Notts, which takes the Trust within touching distance of running the programme for a calendar year (including costs incurred), following the withdrawal of Rushcliffe Borough Council funding.
Forget Me Notts provides a safe environment and stimulating activities for individuals living with dementia, with sessions taking in golf, badminton, bowls, chairobics, or simply the opportunity to relax in an informal setting.
The scheme also facilitates a peer support network, short periods of respite and access to expert advice for carers, in light of Alzheimer’s UK research which found that almost two-thirds say they have insufficient support, or even none at all.
Currently, upwards of 70 individuals attend monthly ‘cafe’ sessions at Trent Bridge, with approximately 40 taking advantage of sports activities delivered at Edwalton Golf Centre, Rushcliffe Arena and Melbourne Park.
Amongst those who took part in the zipwire event at Trent Bridge were Rushcliffe MP Ruth Edwards, as well as several members of the Community Trust’s workforce, service users, and the local cricket community.
Deserving of a particular mention are Barry Hawroth, who raised £2,520 for his efforts, whilst Eastwood Town Cricket Club’s women’s section raised £2,231.
Mark Clifford, Community Projects Manager at Trent Bridge Community Trust, said: “We are eternally grateful to all those who signed up to complete the zipwire, and went to great lengths to fundraise for this cause.”
“Testimonies from our service users speak volumes of how important Forget Me Notts is to them; it is an invaluable service which provides respite, care and advice to individuals who really need it.
“I know that the continuation of the programme for another year will come as a great relief to many who attend, and I am indebted, too, to everyone who made the zipwire event possible in its planning and execution."
