Sammy King hit an unbeaten century as Notts neared 250 on a rain-affected first day of their Second XI Championship clash at Durham.
Play was delayed until after the scheduled lunch interval, with the visitors ultimately amassing 246/4 from the 72 overs of play which were possible.
Batting at number five, King hit 15 fours and one six during his 162-ball stay at the crease, reaching three figures with a whip to the leg side boundary.
The right-hander will resume on 101* when play begins on day two, alongside Sam Seecharan (15*).
Earlier, King had shared a fourth-wicket stand of 126 with Ben Slater, who found the fence on 10 occasions before his innings was ended on 84 by George Drissell.
Captain Slater weathered the early loss of his opening partner Ben Martindale (10) and wicketkeeper Dane Schadendorf (6), with Freddie McCann playing a supporting role during a 53-ball stay at the crease which yielded 12 runs.
