Jack Haynes believes the fast-paced nature of the T20 schedule gives Notts Outlaws the chance to bounce back strongly after opening day defeat against Northamptonshire Steelbacks in their Vitality Blast opener.
The batter is included in an unchanged squad of 14 to face Birmingham Bears in a televised Blast Off fixture at Edgbaston.
Haynes - a signing for Notts over the winter - made 51 on debut for Notts Outlaws, but was one of several wickets to fall in quick succession against the Steelbacks, as the visitors rallied to win by eight wickets at Trent Bridge.
“The games come thick and fast in T20 which is good and exciting,” Haynes said.
“It is disappointing not to go on and put a score on the board that we thought was more competitive, but we’ll park that result, take the positives, take the little bits to work on and give everything at Edgbaston.”
The 23-year-old, who top scored for his side in the loss, said he enjoyed batting at number three, as well as the switch from red ball to white ball cricket.
“I think there is always responsibility when you’re at the top of the order,” he continued.
“I am really enjoying it at the moment. It is a nice responsibility to have, and fingers crossed I can keep contributing in the coming games.
“It’s always different [swapping to white ball cricket]. For me, it’s trying to extend my game slightly, be a little bit more positive and go out there and enjoy it.”
Haynes was part of a 95-run partnership with Joe Clarke, and, depite the result, he praised the new skipper’s batting style in his first game leading the Outlaws.
“I have really enjoyed batting with Clarkey in red ball cricket so to take that to white ball cricket was really nice,” he said.
“He plays really positively and doesn’t put any pressure on you at the other end.
“I enjoyed being part of those partnerships and fingers crossed I can keep contributing in the coming games.”
