Unbeaten half-centuries for Ben Martindale and Sam Seecharan backed up Liam Patterson-White’s five-wicket haul as Nottinghamshire 2nd XI ate into Hampshire’s first-innings lead on a batting-friendly pitch in Southampton.
Patterson-White, who hit a century in the Green and Golds’ first innings before taking three of the first five Rose and Crown wickets to fall, completed figures of 5/161 in the hosts’ eventual 642 all out.
Captain Matt Montgomery also picked up 3/71, including centurion Ben Mayes, to counteract the effects of some sizeable lower-order partnerships for the hosts.
In response, Martindale hit 74 and was joined by Seecharan on 73, as Notts reached 155 without loss in 42 overs to close 97 runs in arrears.
Seecharan struck fluently, reaching his half-century in 54 balls with 11 fours, while it took Martindale 66 deliveries, with eight fours and a six, to post his.
