Sarah Bryce, Sophie Munro and Jenny Gunn turned in strong performances as Nottinghamshire consolidated their position towards the top of the Royal London Women’s One Day Cup Division One table.
Bryce’s half-century set Notts up for an unassailable total against Surrey at Welbeck, as the hosts recorded a 58-run victory in the first of their two games over the bank holiday weekend.
The 19-year-old notched 55 at the top of the order as part of an 89-run stand with skipper Sonia Odedra.
Once Bryce departed, Odedra was able to anchor much of the rest of the innings, compiling a 100-ball 49 before Gunn (38) and Hannah Hughes (32*) provided extra impetus in the final overs.
Bryony Smith made a century at almost a run a ball in reply, but support was not forthcoming from her Surrey team-mates.
Hannah Jones (24) was the second highest scorer on the day for the visitors, as Munro (3-16), Gunn (2-14) and Lucy Higham (2-45) combined to dismiss the visitors for 173.
Monday’s game against Hampshire, however, proved to be a much more difficult assignment.
Notts were put into bat at the John Fretwell Sporting Complex, and quickly found themselves listing at 33-3 after the cheap dismissals of Bryce (4), Higham (7) and Teresa Graves (4).
Odedra (42) was once again able to play a patient role at the top of the order, with Gunn (62*) also helping to push the Notts score to 176 before the hosts were dismissed after 49 overs.
Munro (1-36) and Kirstie Gordon (2-33) made early inroads into the Hampshire line-up, but Katie George (80) and Suzie Bates (63*) helped the visitors recover from 52-3 to get over the line with seven overs to spare, completing a six wicket victory.
With one game of their 50-over campaign remaining, Notts sit in second place in the table, behind a Kent side who have wrapped up their eighth Championship title with a game to spare.
